received her earliest musical training in her native Chicago and later studied at the Juilliard School in New York. As prizewinner of the coveted Concert Artists Guild Award Ms. Salm was presented in her New York debut at Carnegie Hall. Since then she has appeared as soloist with orchestras, including l’Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, the BBC Orchestra, the Berlin Symphony, Orchester der Frankfurter Museumsgesellschaft, Orchester des Norddeutschen Rundfunks, Bruckner Orchestra and San Francisco Symphony appearing with conductors Leonard Slatkin, Christoph von Dohnanyi, Otmar Suitner, Gunter Wand, and Erwin Ortner.
Ms. Salm performs solo recitals in the major cities of the US and Europe: in Vienna as soloist in the Wiener Festwochen, in Schloss Schoenbrunn, the Vienna Konzerthaus, in Schuberts Geburtshaus, in the Palais Rasumovsky and Palais Palffy; in London at Wigmore Hall, the BBC Concert Hall and St. Johns, Smith Square; in the Teatro Verdi and the Museo Civico in Trieste, the Ateneo Veneto in Venice and in the Conservatorio di Musica in Bolzano, Italy; in the major halls of Munich, Stuttgart (Liederhalle), Oslo (Kunstindustrimuseet), Copenhagen, Cologne (Walraff Richartz Museum), Frankfurt (Alte Oper), Budapest (Royal Castle and Bartok House), Krakow, Paris (Le Chatelet, Salle Gaveau), Brussels, Zurich (Tonhalle) and Geneva (Victoria Hall, Conservatoire du Musique). In the United States, Ms. Salm appears in New York (Carnegie Hall, Town Hall, 92nd Street Y), Washington, DC (Kennedy Center, Phillips Collection), Boston, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Cleveland, Denver, Dallas, Miami, Pittsburgh, Detroit, and Chicago.
As both soloist and chamber musician her participation in international music festivals includes those of Saratoga, Newport, Marblehead, Dartmouth, Ouray, Aspen, Angel Fire, the Beethoven Festival of San Francisco, Chenango, and Juneau Jazz and Classics; in England: the Spitalfields and Sheffield Festivals and the Wigmore Hall Beethoven Festival; Montepulciano Cantiere d’Arte and Cortona (Italy), as well as the festivals of Berlin, Budapest and Vienna.
Ms. Salm records frequently for the BBC, ORF (Vienna), South and North German Radio, Hessisch Radio, Radio France, Zurich and Basel Radio, Brussels Radio and the Suisse Romande, as well as for NPR in the U.S.
A dedicated chamber musician, she is a founding member of the Raphael Trio which tours and records throughout the US and Europe, cellist of the Very Necessary String Quartet, co-founder and director of the Raphael Trio Chamber Music Workshop, and gives master classes as a visiting artist at conservatories and music schools in the US
