Join us this holiday season for a special private tour of Tudor Place. Tudor Palace was designed by Dr. William Thornton, designer of both the U.S. Capitol and the Octagon House, and was the home of Thomas and Martha Custis Peter, granddaughter of George Washington. The property, comprised of one city block on the crest of Georgetown Heights, offers an excellent view of the Potomac River.
This is also a great opportunity to meet other ICDC members who appreciate history and art. Our art gallery and museum tours one of our most popular events and frequently sell out well in advance. Please reserve your tickets early, as capacity is limited.
The gardens and the historic house museum collections are as rich and interesting as the home itself. The museum features over 100 objects that belonged to George and Martha Washington. Over the years, the Tudor Palace and Gardens and gardens have been enriched by 180 years of Peter family ownership and give a rare glimpse into American cultural and social history. With its circular domed portico and expansive gardens, the Tudor Palace, completed in 1816, remained under the ownership of six succeeding generations of the Peter family until 1983. The Peter family witnessed the birth and growth of the capital, playing active roles in government, business and society. The family entertained the Marquis de Lafayette, Daniel Webster, Henry Clay, John C. Calhoun and others who shaped America's history.
Limited capacity. You must purchase a ticket online to attend. No Exceptions please.
Please meet us inside the Visitor's Center when you arrive so you can meet the ICDC representative who will check you in.
IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU ARRIVE AT THE DESIGNATED MEETING LOCATION ON TIME. If you arrive late, you will miss the tour/presentation. Kindly note that we are unable to offer refunds if you miss a portion or all of the tour due to late arrival.
