French Ambassador's Residence La Soiree Champagne

Event Description

There is no better way to start the New Year than an exclusive Champagne open bar evening at the Residence of the Ambassador of France. The International Club of DC invites you to the 3rd annual La Soiree Champagne presented by the French-American Chamber of Commerce! The event will be hosted in the private Residence of the Ambassador of France, Gérard Araud, in his presence. This is the perfect occasion to enjoy a rare opportunity to taste different Champagnes from France's leading houses, while at the same time mingle with the Chamber's Board of Directors as well as distinguished guests, high-ranking diplomats and VIPs.
 
In addition to an open-bar serving Champagne, there will be an upscale finger-food cocktail prepared by the Residence's Chef, to pair with the Champagne! The Soirée will also feature live music and art. Please note that the finger-food selections enclosed below are subject to change.

Please note that the event is presented as a cocktail reception with champagne and appetizers and not a seated function or dinner event. Kindly note that the Ambassador's presence is subject to change based on his official duties and responsibilities. In the event the Ambassador is called away on official business, another high ranking official from the embassy will welcome you to the event.

The Residence:
From a portrait of Lafayette to a bust of Benjamin Franklin to Empire-style couches, neo-classical tapestries and other works of contemporary art, the residence is home to numerous treasures. Some of the residence’s featured works of art came from the collections of the Louvre museum, while others were donated by diplomatic officials or other French ambassadors over the 80 years that the home has belonged to the French government.

Art Exhibit:
In addition to the artwork permanently housed in the Residence, French artist Stephane Koerwyn will be exhibiting his paintings throughout the Residence on the occasion of La Soiree Champagne. Stéphane has participated in multiple exhibitions over the past few years with shows in Paris, Brussels, London, New-York, Washington DC and Shanghai. 

Music:
In the Residence's Salon Moderne, Barbara Papendorp (vocals) and Oren Levine (piano) will play French cabaret songs and timeless tunes from the vast and beautiful French songbook. Barbara Papendorp has performed in and around DC, singing French Cabaret songs in I LOVE PARIS! A Bastille Day Celebration at La Maison Française, An American in Paris—Paris on the Potomac at L’Alliance Française of Washington DC and RENOIR’S RETURN at the Phillips Collection. Barbara received glowing reviews as Violette the Dancehall Singer in La Vagabonde (Parisian Cabaret) with Le NEON Theatre  (“…lovely solos by vocalist Barbara Papendorp,… superb teasing and poignant singing of Barbara Papendorp…[She] delivers the on-stage performances of music hall songs in the Edith Piaf mode.")

Please note that this exclusive event is presented as a fundraiser for the French American Chamber of Commerce, a 501c6 nonprofit organization.
