JUST ANNOUNCED: Wednesday, October 15 A Taste of Poland: Embassy of Poland Dinner Reception and Classical Concert with violin virtuoso Mariusz Patyra: A Celebration of Polish Cuisine, Culture, Music and Art! We cordially requests the pleasure of your company for a wonderful and rare opportunity to discover Poland through all your senses. The evening begins with a presentation about Poland. Afterwards sit back and relax to a delightful piano and violin performance by world renowned violin virtuoso Mariusz Patyra. You will then be invited to feast on a sumptuous buffet of traditional Polish delicacies prepared especially for us by the embassy chef. Wine and Polish spirits served at the open bar. Friday, October 10 Two to Tango: A Friday Evening in Buenos Aires - Argentine Tango Lessons. Join us for our Friday night Argentine tango lesson followed by a tango and Latin dance party at PASHA NIGHTCLUB, a chic and ultramodern nightclub conveniently located in Du Pont Circle. Start your evening with a Tango lesson and enjoy a night of music, dancing, and good company. You are welcome to come by yourself. Saturday, October 11 Hike the Shenandoah Mountains to Experience the Fall Foliage. Shenandoah National Park and Skyline drive are one of the best places in the United States to experience the beautiful fall foliage colors. Thursday, October 16 Dance Party Rehearsal for Masquerade Ball: Learn the Viennese Waltz, as danced in Vienna.Whether you plan to attend our Masquarade Ball at the National Museum of Women in the Arts or would simply like to learn how to dance the Viennese Waltz, as it is danced in Vienna, join us to learn one of the most timeless and romantic dances of all time. The lessons will be taught on the exquisite marble dance floor of the the grand ballroom of the National Museum of Women in the Arts. The Viennese waltz lessons will be taught by Carol Traxler. A Native of Austria, Mr. Traxler has taught the Viennese waltz to hundreds of enthusiastic dancers in the Washington, DC, area -- at the White House, the Smithsonian, and the Austrian Embassy. Saturday, October 18 Embassy of France Opera Performance Featuring performers of the Domingo-Cafritz Young Artist Program at the Washington National Opera. Join us on an autumn Saturday evening at the Embassy of France for a delightful opera performance followed by a wine reception to meet the artists and ICDC members in attendance. Tuesday, October 21 Macallan Scotch Tasting. We are pleased to invite you to a scotch tasting and reception featuring world renowned Macallan Scotch at the prestigious Woman's National Democratic Club. Our annual Masquerade Ball at the National Museum of Women in the Arts is the quintessence of our cultural events calendar and the social event of the season for Internationally-minded professionals in town. The evening featuring dancing to 2 live bands, lavish dinner with open bar, extravagant desserts, and dancing is the social event of the season for internationally minded professionals. In just one day, you will learn all the basics of navigating a sail boat while experiencing magnificent views of the Washington DC skyline from the Potomac River. Sunday, October 19, 2008. Sunset and Moonlight Kayaking on the Potomac River to experience the Fall Foliage. This is our FINAL kayaking session for the year! Kayak up the Potomac River from Georgetown to experience the beautifully vibrant fall foliage. You will see different colors and shades of leaves changing color and, if we are lucky, trees with blazing red leaves signaling the harbinger of winter -- all while meeting other ICDC members who love the outdoors. You are cordially invited to join us at the Embassy of France for an evening of ballroom dance lessons and French wine. Come on your own or bring your friends. We have been offering this event to our multilingual members for more than 4 years and it is a great opportunity to practice a foreign language! Friday, October 31, 2008. Halloween Dance Party at the Sports Club of LA with Live music by the Latin band Origem and DJ spinning international dance hits. The International Club of DC invites all Ghosts, goblins, politicians, and other scary creatures to join us for our Halloween dance party at the Prestigious Sports Club of LA, adjoining the Ritz Carlton Hotel. You are invited to join us for a night of dancing and an unforgettable Halloween Celebration! Saturday, November 01, 2008. Fall Foliage Great Falls Waterfall Hiking trip. Fall is one of the best times of the year to discover and explore Great Falls, a hidden gem of a national park just minutes from DC. Join us for our hiking trip to Great Falls National Park to experience beautiful fall foliage. At Great Falls, the Potomac River plunges seventy-six feet through a deep gorge creating a series of scenic waterfalls. We will hike and enjoy a relaxing picnic before heading back to town. Saturday, November 01, 2008. A Taste of Russia: A celebration of Russian, culture, art, music and cuisine at the Russian Cultural Center. The International Club of DC, with the cooperation of the Russian Cultural Center, cordially requests the pleasure of your company for an enchanting evening of Russian music, culture, art, and cuisine. This is a wonderful opportunity to discover and experience Russian culture and make new friends from around the world as you meet other Russians and other internationally-minded professionals in town. The evening begins with a cocktail reception with Russian classical music. Afterwards discover Russian culture and art with an introduction to Hermitage of St. Petersburg, by Mr. Victor Oganjanov. Sunday, November 09, 2008. Fencing Lessons Including Equipment Rentals. Join us for an exciting lesson on swordsmanship and chivalry. The lesson will cover the basics of fencing in a relaxed, fun, and SAFE setting. All equipment will be provided. After the lesson, practice your fencing skills with other attendees.
